Can Spironolactone cause insomnia?

Question

I was prescribed 100mg of spiro to help hairloss and have insomnia when taking it. Decreased to 50mg and still had insomnia. Will this go away eventually and if not are there other anti-androgen medications I can take ( I am female).

I suggest seeing a hair loss expert to evaluate and go over your condition and provide you information about your best treatment options and possible side effects. There are great non-invasive options like prp which combined with progesterone can give improvement without causing insomnia and/or hair transplantation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Insomnia
has been reported as a side effect in patients taking Spironolactone.  You asked for alternatives to your hair loss,
have you tried topical Rogaine?  Or a low
level light therapy (LLLT) device like Laser Cap?   Have you seen a hair restoration physician?

This drug can change your hormone balance and in doing so can cause insomnia as a known side effect
