Question

This is my second time getting my bottom legs lasered, first time I had redness but not as much. This time, it's been 2 days I'm suffering all day and night by itching and being in so much pain that it feels awkward walking. I can't wear pants, nothing. It's very bumpy, itchy and painful. I complained and they told me it's allergic reaction but I think it might be something else. They said I tolerated the pain well so they raised the strength as well. Please help!

Hello,If you have very thick, coarse, and dense hair, this is a normal response and is referred to as "follicular edema."  This means that the hair follicles are still swollen from the treatment.  We recommend our patients to avoid shaving, use hydrocortisone cream (found over the counter) and you may also consider an antihistamine such as Benadryl.  We suggest you also contact your practitioner to let them know your concerns so that they may also review expectations and interventions.

Sometimes this happens, the follicles treated were irritated, which is causing them to turn red and itch. It's not abnormal for this to happen, apply some cool water to the sites, followed by some hydrocortisone. Stay away from any scented lotions or perfumes, doing so could cause more irritation. The higher the setting the more likely this will happen again for you. so keep that in mind.

Thanks for your question and posting pictures.  It's been a couple of days so I'm sure your legs are back to normal.  Sometimes this happens on its own, but not normally.  Don't let this dissuade you from doing additional treatments.  After LHR and most other laser treatments, it is important to not raise your body temperature for the next several hours.  Avoid strenuous exercise, hot tubs or even a hot bath for the rest of the day.  Best of luck.
