3 days post op Microneedling and I have not healed yet. Is this normal? (photo)

Question

I’ve had microneedling done and it’s been 3 days and my face still looks like this, with visible “needle marks/ track marks”. I’m asian with darker features, just wondering if this is something I should be worried about? I’ve had microneedling done before and I healed within 2 days. But this time, she did use longer needles as I have pitted scars. Many thanks

if the length of the needles was deeper, it is not a surprise. Please make sure to use a lot of sunscreen or stay out of the sun at this time till it heals. It should be fully healed in a week. Hope this helps!!

There is an art to micro needling. Dragging and scraping the needles across your face is destructive, counterproductive and causes undesirable trauma. A more perpendicular method assures triggering a wound healing cascade without scarring the tissue more. If PRP or growth factors were used it will heal but will take time. You will need 6-8 treatments, a month apart with a maximum needle depth of 1.5. Vitamin A products are optimal. Avoid alcohol based toners, Retin A/HQ for 10 days. Surprisingly, studies have shown that shorter needle lengths are more effective at creating channels that allow for better penetration of topical serums and medications. In my opinion, this is the true benefit to be derived from a microneedling treatment.Longer needle lengths create more tissue damage, swelling and bleeding which can adversely affect penetration of these serums. For my patients, we routinely use needle lengths of 0.25 to 0.5 mm and we are seeing better results with much less discomfort and practically no "down time".In my office, we use the ProCell Therapies system which combines motorized micro-needling with concentrated human growth factor serums made from human stem cells.
