I got caught up in an accident around 3 weeks ago, I punched glass and cut my middle finger extensor tendon on the MCP joint. I now have a huge lump above my knuckle and I would just like to know if this will go away and if so how long will it take to see a difference.
Answer: Scar Removal Treatments Our Hidef protocols for scar revision can address different types of scars, depending on your scar biometrics and characteristics. Protocols vary in duration based on the severity of your scars. Bad scars can manifest in many different ways, including pigmentation, thickening, and depression of atrophic scars. Thick scars are best treated in my practice with IIT, cortisone injections, pressure management, and laser. We recommend daily use of Plato’s Scar Serum to the scars to mediate scar hypertrophy. Hyperpigmented scars respond well to Melarase AM and Melarase PM creams. If the area is large, consider Luminase and Exfolase creams for the body. Hyperpigmentation PIH can also be treated with Q switch laser, PICO, chemical peels, and rapid scar exfoliation. PIE erythema scars are best treated with pulsed dye laser. Keloid scars are our specialization. We manage small and large keloid scars with excision, IIT, PRP, laser therapy, and scar modulation. Use Plato’s Scar Serum daily. Textural scars respond well to nanofractional RF and fractional laser to help improve surface texture. When combined with scar modulation, the results can improve dramatically. The most important variable is for you to choose a plastic surgeon with expertise in laser therapy using Hidef protocols. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Will hard scar tissue go away on my knuckle go away? You may still be experiencing persistent swelling at this point in time, which is common in the early stages of healing. For as long as you regularly follow up with your surgeon, and keeping the wound clean and dry as much as possible, then there shouldn't be a problem. It takes around 3 months or more for a scar to start maturing and it may take up to 2 years, depending on the healing rate.

Answer: It can take a year I tell all my patients that it will take one year for scars to reach their final form. Prior to that time, I always recommend that massage helps scar tissue remodel. This allows scars to become flatter and less noticeable. When it comes to scars on the hands over tendons, it is crucial to have occupational hand therapy to help with rehabilitation. Hand therapists help ensure optimal tendon gliding and maximizing range of motion in a safe protected environment for your hand as your scar remodels and matures. Hand therapists will work with you to ensure that your extensor tendon does not become caught up in scar tissue, which could compromise your hand function. Good luck!

Answer: Scar Tissue Dear Jack Jones 23,Hello and thank you for your excellent question. My best advice to you is to 1) follow up with your hand surgeon to make sure that you do not have some form of retained foreign body that is causing the "lump", and 2) be patient, as the scar needs 3-6 months to mature. Provided that their isn't some form of foreign debris in the wound, I can promise you that the scar will soften over time. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!
