What happens to the breast tissue and fat when finishing the breast reduction surgery?

Obviously the tissue removed both skin and fat is usually sent to a pathologist to evaluate the tissue. The remaining tissue and skin usually heal fine.

After the tissue is removed it is separated (left from right). It is then weighed separately and then is examined by a pathologist to rule out and tissue abnormalities. In the 2,000 plus reductions I have performed we have located a tumor in only approximately 5 patients. Also, any abnormal findings that are encountered during the procedure are removed separately and submitted as a biopsy.
