I have my breast reduction surgery scheduled the exact same day as my period is going to arrive! Advice to proceed?

I have my reduction surgery scheduled the exact same day my period is going to arrive! Is it even possibly to do? The second (worst) day of my period will be the day I am supposed to do nothing but recover which I won't be able to do while going to the bathroom (on pain killers) to change tampons and clean myself down there?

Hi, thanks for your question. It is not uncommon and totally possible to have your period during surgery. That said, if it makes you uncomfortable please speak to your surgeon and see if you can possibly reschedule.

Patients often have their period at the time of surgery so it doesn’t shock anyone. But call your surgeon and let them know. Perhaps the surgery could be rescheduled

every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

Having your period during surgery is not a concern.  There is nothing special to do and no need to reschedule.  The day after surgery you will be tired and slow but you will be able to get up and use the restroom as needed.

Hi and welcome to our forum!Beginning your period on the day of surgery will not result in cancellation. It may be a bit more inconvenient and uncomfortable, but won't interfere with the performance or the result of the procedure itself.Be sure to have someone present to assist you on the evening after your surgery.Best wishes...
