Dear amirakey2005,if you have a diabetes, then it should be well controlled prior to surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Blood sugar levels should be normalized or very tightly regulated before considering surgery. If you are otherwise healthy, you may be a great candidate for the Brazilian buttlift. Your board certified PS will require clearance from your endocrinologist or PCP based on required lab work.
Thank you for the question. Generally, before having any surgery, we want patients to be as healthy as possible. The healthier you are, the lower the risk and better you will heal. HgA1C is a marker of long term glucose control. Generally, for surgery, we want to see a number under 7. Your PS will typically require additional labs, to check for anemia, and kidney function as well. The most common reason patients are cancelled for surgery isn't a hga1c issue, but anemia. So make sure you are getting enough protein and iron in your diet before surgery. Doing some light exercise in the month leading up to surgery is a great way to help condition your body to be ready for surgery. Surgery places a lot of stress on your body, and if you are out of shape, it will affect how you heal. During this time of covid19, it's especially important to be healthy. Data suggests that patients who contract covid19 who are healthy will do much better than those who have health issues. Getting enough vitamins such as D and C play crucial roles in the healing process. I do not recommend mega doses of any vitamins, but given about 50% of the US population is Vitamin D deficient, you should take a Vitamin D supplement daily. Just nothing excessive. There are numerous studies showing a strong connection between vitamin D deficiency and covid19 mortality. There are several randomized trials looking into a cause and effect relationship, which are still pending. Given that, it's a good enough reason to take a daily supplement just to be healthy. Best to you.
