46 yr old woman, 5'4", weighing 69 kg want to get my calves liposuctioned. But I have heard that the downtime is too much. Someone I know had trouble even standing on their legs for more than a month after surgery because the calves were really very sore! Hence iam nervous and apprehensive about whether to go ahead with the surgery or not!

Thank you for your question regarding downtime after calf liposuction. Calf liposuction is a painful procedure, but the benefits can be extremely dramatic. The pain occurs because the lower extremities have very tight compartments and are very responsive to changes in pressure. Generally, the recovery rate after calf liposuction is patient-dependent, meaning some patients heal faster than others. However, most patients recover approximately 6 to 8 weeks after the procedure. Yes, initially calf liposuction will be painful and it will be difficult to walk. Over time, however, you will be able to walk more and more. Calf reduction works best with VASER liposuction. In addition, I would highly suggest you wear your compression garments for at least 6 to 8 weeks, or longer if you have swelling. I would also strongly encourage lymphatic massage.
