Red and inflamed gums after teeth whitening?

I did a teeth whitening treatment. In one part of my mouth, where the whitening stuff got on my gums, the white color went away. But now that area of my gums are red and a little inflamed. I was wondering when this will go away and how long it should take to heal? And when it might be a good idea to see a dentist about it?

Hi from Goose Creek South Carolina!   You had bleach, unfortunately, spill onto the gum area from your trays. Your gums turned white and now they are red,  They will heal and be fine. You can help them along by washing your mouth out with a little warm salt water. Your gums will heal faster. You can also brush with Sensodyne Toothpaste because your teeth maybe a little sensitive after your whitening. You do not need to go back and see your dentist.  Enjoy your white teeth and smile!

the white stuff was the surface of your gums burned a little by the peroxide.  That has sloughed off and the dermis underneath is healing.  Will go away probably within a day.  No need to see the dentist.  Just brush gently.

The red gum tissue is from the surface irritation from the bleaching agent exposure. It is a mild chemical burn and will act similar to a burn from hot pizza or the like. Warm salt water rinses--keep the area clean and it should heal without needing any special care. Good luck!
