What do you think is the root cause of hair loss?

I know the DHT theory is widely considered as the popular understanding of the balding process. Though I’ve found many holes with this view of hair loss and I’ve found quite a few other theories that help to explain MPB and it’s predictable pattern. Such as the gravity theory or the skull expansion theory. It’s fun to talk about this stuff on forums but I want to know your professional opinion on these theories. Have you done any research on the matter?
