Can Gently Moving the Nose with the Cast One Affect the Result?

Question

One the day of my rhinoplasty for septal deviation i gently started moving the cast with my nose side to side after i had lateral and medial osteotomies, so can this distort the result of my rhinoplasty and make my nose not straight?

Moving the nose during the first few days after rhinoplasty, with a cast on or off, could definitely affect the results. You would need to be examined to determine if anything you did may have shifted your nose or not. If it was just a gentle movement, it may have only moved the cast and not the nose.

Dear Jimmy,

	Thank you for your question.  The splint is holding the nasal bones and cartilage in place.  Moving the splint can thus move the structures underneath.  It is best to leave the splint alone in the position that your surgeon left it in.  Even when the splint is removed, it is important to treat your nose very gentlly and not move it.
