What is this roundness on my nose? (Photo)

Question

My left side of my nose has this roundness to the nostril, the skin feels thickened in a sense. have allergies and deal with a lot of congestion overall, but this side always gives me the most trouble, and now it seems it’s becoming more and more visible because it’s not the same profile as the other side of my nose. What should I do?

From your description and the photo, it sounds like the roundness on your left nostril may be related to chronic inflammation or swelling of the nasal tissues, which can sometimes happen with ongoing congestion or allergies. The thickened feeling of the skin could be from repeated irritation, inflammation, or even mild fluid retention in the tissues over time. In some cases, uneven pressure inside the nose from chronic blockage can subtly change the shape or symmetry of the nostrils.

Other possibilities could include localized swelling from minor cysts, a small benign growth, or even scar tissue from past trauma, but these are less common.

What you’re noticing—one side becoming more prominent than the other—is very understandable. Chronic congestion or allergies can definitely make subtle asymmetries more visible over time.

Management often starts with addressing the underlying congestion and inflammation: controlling allergies with medications, saline rinses, or topical nasal steroids can sometimes reduce swelling. If the shape of the nostril continues to bother you or worsens, a consultation with a specialist in ENT or facial plastic surgery can help determine if there’s an anatomical factor contributing to this asymmetry and discuss options for correction if needed.

It’s natural to feel concerned when your nose starts looking uneven, but many of these changes can be improved or at least managed once the underlying causes are identified.

Based on your photo, you appear to have relatively thin nasal skin which will show somebody's nasal skeleton readily.
