My breast are a little larger than a DDD with severe asymmetry. I want my insurance to approve coverage. According to the Schnur Sliding Scale I would need to remove 527 grams. What size will my breast be?

Answer: If I get a breast reduction what size will my breasts be? It can be very difficult to tell you exactly what size your breasts will be after a breast reduction. Every bra can be a little bit different. 500gm translates to approximately 1 pound per breast that will be removed. One simple way to get a good idea is to have your plastic surgeon show you a 500cc implant during your consultation. Compare the implant to your breast to get an idea of what will be removed.

Answer: What size will breasts be with reduction of 527 grams? The gram amount is dependent upon the density of the breast tissue and the volume removed. I would discuss the Schnur Sliding Scale calculation of 527 grams to be removed with a board certified plastic surgeon who performs hundreds of breast surgeries annually. He or she will have 530 cc breast implant which would weight 530 grams for you to see. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Breast reduction and removal of grams. Unfortunately, each insurance company has their own criteria. Large breasts (macromastia) or breast hypertrophy can occur in a variety of conditions (family trait, post pregnancy, excessive adolescent growth). In general when the excessive breast size causes functional problems, insurance will generally pay for the operation if more than 400 – 500 grams are removed from each breast dependent on your individual insurance company requirements. These problems may include neck pain, back or shoulder pain, hygiene difficulty, and breast pain. Other problems which are less likely to be covered by insurance include skin irritation, skeletal deformity, breathing problems, psychological/emotional problems, and interference with normal daily activities. Pre-authorization by the insurance company is required prior to surgery, and the process takes approximately one month. Each insurance policy has different guidelines and exclusions. This procedure is commonly covered by insurance through insurance criteria are becoming more and more restrictive #breastreduction #reduction

Answer: If I get a breast reduction what size will my breasts by? Thank you for the question and congratulations on your decision to proceed with breast reduction surgery; this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. There is no direct correlation between the amount of tissue removed and the ultimate cup size that a patient will wear after breast reduction surgery. Before undergoing the breast reduction procedure it will be very important to communicate your size goals with your surgeon (who you should choose very carefully). Most patients wish to achieve enough of a reduction to help with their symptoms while remaining proportionate with the remainder of their torso. With the goal of improving communication with my patients I find the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) very helpful. I have found that the use of words such as “natural” or “C or D cup” means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful. Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup size may also be inaccurate. Best wishes with your breast reduction procedure; hopefully you will be very pleased with the outcome of the procedure performed.

Answer: Breast reduction 527 g - what size will you be? Hello and thank you for your excellent question. I am glad you have done your research to see specifically what will be required for your breast reduction to be covered by insurance. Unfortunately, without photos or an estimate of your current breast volume, I have no ability to estimate what your breast size will be after a 527 g reduction on each side. Ideally, an in-person evaluation will help to answer your question, as well as your suitability for the procedure. Preoperative visualization and surgical simulation with the Crisalix system may help with your decision. I suggest that you find a board-certified plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of patients who have had similar procedures. Good luck!
