Infection from coolsculpting is very rare, I have never seen it or heard of it. There is no skin penetration. I have seen skin death ("necrosis") from coolsculpting like devices that were not the true FDA approved product. I suggest seeing your physician if you are concerned. Best, Dr. Emer.
Dear Lisai have been performing coolsculpting for the past 5 years treating thousands of patient and I have never experience any infection or other serious complications. The coolsculpting procedure is the safest and most effective procedure as long is performed under a board certified physician. Best of luck
The coolsculpting procedure eliminates fat by freezing fat cells under the skin. This is a non-invasive procedure that leads to a 20-25% permanent fat reduction in the treated area. There are no injections or breaks in the skin. As such, it would be exceedingly rare, if possible at all, to get an infection from this procedure.
Dear Lisa33351:I have been performing CoolSculpting since Zeltiq first asked me to be one of 10 doctors to premiere the procedure in the New York City area, and can assure you that it is not possible to get an infection from CoolSculpting. There are no needles and no breaks in the skin occur during or after the procedure, so there is no possibility of bacteria being introduced into the tissues. If one had a history of cold sores in the area being treated, herpetic infection could be triggered. The same is true for shingles, if one had a history of chickenpox. but in that case, you would not be "getting an infection" but rather triggering an outbreak of an infection your body already carries. If you have a history of cold sores in the areas to be treated, you should ask if you should take Valtrex the day of the procedure.Very rarely, firm areas develop after the procedure in the treated areas. These resolve within a few weeks. Perhaps this is what you have noticed? I do hope your issue has improved by the time that you read this answer. All the best,Dr. Clark
Even though the CoolSmooth is meant to be used for non-pinchable fat areas, it can most definitely be used for the abdomen as well. The concept behind all the suction based applicators is that when fat is drawn into the applicator, it is isolated from the muscle, blood supply and heat,...

CoolSculpting is a procedure that can be done on areas that have fat which you can “grab” – if you can grab it, CoolSculpting can be used successfully to reduce the fat under the applicators that are used – about 20% per treatment session. While there will be some natural contraction in the ove...
