Small amount of submental fat. Is CoolSculpting, Kybella or something else best to treat this?

Is coolsculpting, Kybella, or something else best for a small area of submental fat? I had a consult and was told I’d probably need 1 applicator and only 1 session of coolsculpting but didn’t ask about Kybella and now I’m curious of the difference. The fat is only a bad double chin when I look or bend my neck down but there is a pinch able area there and i was told it’s genetic so it has stayed after weight loss.

Kybella definitely is effective at reducing small collections of excess fat in the submentum. Like Coolsculpting, if you have good skin tone, the decompression by dissolving fat allows the skin to contour.  Kybella may require multiple sessions depending upon the thickness. The "double chin" may persist however when you change neck positions-the surgical options (liposuction w/tightening, necklift) would address this. Also consider using MINT barbed threads to reposition lax skin & soft tissue.  There are many options-having an in person examination is central to knowing which one(s) would be effective. "For a double chin, InMode FaceTite with VASERlipo would give you the best result.

With significant neck sagging you would need a facelift / neck lift with muscle tightening (platysmaplasty). At the same time, I would recommend lasers (Fraxel, CO2, Halo, or Erbium) and microneedling RF (Fractora, Morpheus8, PiXel8, Intensif) to improve the crepey skin and wrinkles. Overall, the neck can be treated with a combination approach:

1. Microneedling and laser treatments for texture
2. Botox, Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveau to help platysmal bands
3. Intensif, Fractora, PiXel8, or Morpheus8 microneedling RF for crepey skin and lifting
4. Injectable fillers like Belotero, Restylane Silk, Versa, and Juvederm Volbella to improve lines and folds

6. Renuvion (J-Plasma), ThermiRF, and InMode FaceTite/AccuTite for internal tightening
7. Ultherapy and Thermage for external tightening
8. Regular Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra, or InMode Forma treatments with facials to maintain tightness
9. PDO NovaThreads or Silhouette InstaLift cone threads for lifting and long-term collagen production

There are several treatment options for reducing a small amount of submental fat.  Liposuction can be used, but if there is only a very small amount of fat, sometimes other treatments can work well.  Kybella is very effective in reducing fat under the chin, but usually, more than one treatment session is needed.  CoolSculpting could also be used, but for most people, at least 2 treatment sessions are needed.  In my opinion, I think the Kybella would work better than the CoolSculpting in that area.

CoolSculpting and Kybella both provide permanent fat reduction to the submental region. When choosing between the two it commonly comes down to how much fat the patient has in that area and which treatment they would prefer. We generally use CoolScutlping to debulk patients that have a large amount of submental fat and then fine-tune it with Kybella afterwards.
