What will happen when I get IPL for Invisalign?

Question

I started Invisalign treatment almost 2 weeks ago with a total treatment time estimated at 12 months. I have overcrowding on the bottom and IPL was not mentioned at my consultation but my orthodontist was mentioning it to the assistant during my installation. What can I expect from this and what is the purpose? I'm going crazy not being able to know more until my next check-up in 6 weeks.

Most likely they were referring to IPR.  It stands for Interproximal Reduction.  This is a standard technique used in Invisalign treatment that files very small amounts of tooth structure in between the teeth to create room.  This is a painless process.  At times this can cause senstivity that is transient.  Nothing to worry about. Hope this helps and eases your concerns.

Dear Investinme,IPR or interproximal reduction is commonly used in orthodontic treatment to create space to alleviate crowding. There is no reason to be concerned, but you should always feel comfortable calling your doctor to discuss concerns. Interproximal reduction.  Basically using sandpaper instead of floss to lightly reshape some teeth and create a little space so that teeth do not need to be taken out to have space for teeth to align and the bite be  OK.  Not a biggie.  Done in about 1/2 of adult orthodontic cases if they are done properly.  Doesn't hurt.  Just a little weird.
