Typically we start spironolactone at 50 mg daily and increase up to 150 mg daily with normal postassium levels and no side effects. Each patient responds differently and dosing is very patient specific.The effect of spironolactone takes about 4 weeks to show up on your skin, so be patient.  We find a lot of success combining oral spironolactone and treating the skin with the Isolaze Acne Technology.  The spironolactone treats the hormonal acne and the Isolaz treats the exisiting lesions, minimizes redness and typically allows the patient to be treated with a lower dose of spironolactone.

Thanks for your question.  It is important to see your prescribing physician and discuss the dose with them.  In my practice, we start at 25-50mg daily, and may increase up to 100mg after a few months if someone is not having enough improvement.  But everyone is different, and you definitely need to call the office of whomever prescribed it and discuss your concerns specifically.
