Since I was 15 I've noticed I have a lump on the tip of my nose. It really makes me conscious since my nose looks different from each side and I would really like to get rid of it, as well as make my nostrils more even. It seems my nose curves out then in ... would I be suitable for a nose job? People don't notice it much in person but in photographs it's obvious and it makes any confidence I have go. I'd love a straight, symmetrical nose! Thank you! Natalie, 21.

Answer: Nasal tip asymmetry The nasal tip cartilages also known as the lower lateral cartilages are asymmetrical. A rhinoplasty would involve exploration of the nasal tip with suturing techniques, possible cartilage removal and/or grafting to make both nasal tip cartilage more symmetrical. Also important to make sure the new tip balances with the remainder of the nasal component features. For many examples please see the link below to our rhinoplasty photo gallery

Answer: Excellent Rhinoplasty Candidate Dear Natalie, You are an excellent candidate for rhinoplasty surgery. It is important that your surgeon takes into consideration your entire facial aesthetics and incorporates that in your surgical plan. You are correct that your nose tip is asymmetrical and the bridge needs straightening. I believe you are an excellent candidate for rhinoplasty surgery and if you see a surgeon in consultation who has a digital imaging computer the surgeon will be able to show you the proposed changes to your nose and what needs to be done surgically to attain these changes. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
