Wondering if I could partially close a 2 to 2.5 mm gap in front teeth with direct bonding until I can afford veneers? (photos)

There is a proportion that occurs in Nature called the Golden proportion.  Roughly speaking it is 1:1.6 ... this is one criteria for attractive looking front teeth.  The 2 front teeth should be about 1.6 times the width of the lateral incisors (or the 2nd teeth from the front).  When you fix a space by adding filling material to close it, that usually makes the teeth appear much wider than that proportion and often does not look attractive.  When this is corrected with veneers the widths of the teeth can be adjusted to create Golden proportions.One thing that can be done is what is called a "mock-up".  Your dentist can close the space with tooth coloured resin and not bond it into place.  This will give you an idea as to whether it will look acceptable to you or not.  It only takes a few minutes to do and might help in the decision making process as to what the best solution is for now.  The mock up material is easily removed after you preview the result.As well, it is possible to adjust the shapes of the front 4 teeth with direct bonding.  You don't have to limit yourself to the 2 front teeth.A lot depends on your budget and the skills and creativity of your dentist.  Good luck !

Yes, you certainly could have this done. It appears that the two front teeth angle out somewhat, so boding would look nice to allign them better. It may even be possible to take a slight amount off of the opposite side of the tooth if they appear too wide to you. The mock idea is a good one to show what the width of the teeth would be, but even if the space weren't totally closed, I think you would be happy with the improvement in your smile.

You certainly can have this done.  You are right, your teeth would appear somewhat wide with full width veneers though most people don't notice this.  Find a good cosmetic dentist to have this space closed the amount you are considering.  Good luck!
