I have porcelain veneers. I was given a night guard, but it fell out and I lost it. Where do I go from here?

Hello there,It's unclear why you first got the nightguard, but it sounds like you may be a grinder.  If you are a night grinder, then it is very important that you just return to your dentist and ask that a night guard be remade, or simply go to another dentist to have another night guard made.  Be sure to tell the dentist that the previous one was making your jaw sore, so that s/he can redesign a night guard that prevents or decreases this soreness.  If you forgo wearing your night guard for the next few months, you may start to chip, damage or dislodge your veneers in this time period.  Good luck and I hope this helps. Assuming the nightguard was was placed as a precaution, and not to prevent damage from parafunctional movements (grinding or clenching of your teeth), your teeth should not shift and the veneers should not break. A caveat though is that I am assuming that the placement of the veneers did not create an occlusal interfence and that they are not hitting prematurely during functional movements, ie, when eating. However, the best advice is to see your dentist and resolve the issues associated with the nightguard. Best wishes!

If the veneers closed the gaps alone, and braces weren't part of the treatment, then the night guard loss will not lead to the teeth moving.  If you have a night time parafunction (grind while you sleep) then simply get a new one.
