I'm a 19 year old male with long hair. I have difficulty telling if I'm experiencing thinning near my crown or if it is just from my hair part because I feel like sometimes if I take a photo of it the crown looks slightly thinner than the rest of my hair and wanted to see what a professional might think

Thank you for your question and photos. From the images uploaded, your part appears to be normal thickness without hair loss. At 19 years of age, it would be a good idea to monitor it through the years and this can be done by taking similar photos every 6-12 months to compare. If thinning does become apparent, there are a few preventive medications that can be started, however it is not recommended at this time.

It’s not possible to tell from photos like this. You may wish to see a specialist to review up close. The other option is to keep taking photos every 6-12 months to track any changes in density that might be occurring. The crown part can be tricky and even a mild telogen effluvium (rather than balding) could make it look a bit thinner. Be sure to see a hair loss specialist to review if recent stress, low iron, thyroid problems, new medications in the last 2 years, smoking, infections (covid etc) could account for perceived concerns.
