Essix retainer cost for just upper teeth.

Question

can someone please let me know , after my invisalign , doctor recommended to wear my last aligner as the retainer . its been over 5 years wearing the same retainer .Is it hygienic. is it safe to wear the last aligner for so many years? i want to change to new retainer . he says the cost for just one retainer is $300 that too its essix not invisalign (vivera) retainer?i read here , the cost for one essix retainer happens to be $100 to $200 . Sounds like $300 is too much for just one essix retainer?can any orthodontis or dentist please help with cost clarification , is this normal rate?

Usually the cost of Essex is anywhere from 150 to 250 dollars but some charge more or less depending on the area and overhead. Essex retainer do not last for many years. Ask your doctor for a permanent bonded retainer if you are a good candidate for that. This type of retainer lasts much longer but can cost a bit more.

Hello, Valenciawright.  You can wear the last aligner as a retainer.  Over time though, it should be replaced.  I think now is a good time for you to replace it.  Costs of retainers can vary from orthodontist to orthodontist and location to location.  A lot of factors go in to pricing such as cost of materials.  In our office it is $250 for an essix retainer.  As a reference point, we are located in southern California.  Vivera retainers from Invisalign may be a good option for you.  In our office the cost of Vivera is $375 for one arch.  This means the top teeth only or the bottom teeth only.  For $375 you get 4 retainers total which is nice as you'll have back-ups in case you lose or break your retainer.  Even if you don't lose or break one, you can switch to a new fresh and clean retainer after a few years.
