have read a lot about empty nose syndrome after sinus surgery. Surgery is coming up in the next month, I’m questioning wether or not to proceed.. how common is empty nose syndrome? Is sinus surgery worth it?

Theoretically, empty nose syndrome is associated with resection of too much turbinate tissue. If you are not having a turbinate reduction, this is not a possible sequela, as far as I know. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Empty nose syndrome is extremely rare even though I know it sounds scary. I have never seen an case of empty nose

Empty nose syndrome usually is created by over resection of the inferior turbinates, or resection of the middle turbinate. It is Not caused from endoscopic sinus surgery, or from a septoplasty.
