2 years since my rhinoplasty and septoplasty, I cannot smell anything. Should I be worried?

Hi, I underwent Rhinoplasty & Sepoplasty as one operation in August 2020 and there are a lot of issues that I am facing today since post surgery. Firstly since a week after the procedure I have not been able to smell anything and I thought it was covid related but it has been nearly two years now and has had affected my life so much I don’t know why I haven’t been able to smell anything for this long I’m really worried.

Thanks for your question. It depends if the numbness has been there since the surgery. If it is new, it may be unlikely to be related to the surgery 3 years ago, though possible. I recommend seeing your rhinoplasty surgeon who can examine you and determine what the cause of this is.

If this was present before surgery, it may be your "anterior nasal spine" or just septal cartilage - looks like it may be a piece of bone or cartilage at the base of your septum. It's probably best not to worry about this if all else is fine. Good luck! Dr Joseph
