Is it possible for masseter Botox to cause lasting harm to nerves or muscles?

Giving255405
Hi, I have been having botox injections in the masseter muscles for many years for TMJ, but also liked the slimming and contouring effect and never had any issues. Three years ago, after botox in the masseter muscles at a new clinic I had not gone to before, I started to notice the corners of my mouth did not lift as high as before when smiling, causing a more closed smile look and facial asymmetry. The quantity injected was higher than usual even though I had specified the number of units I wanted. My smiling expressions changed ever since and my smile never went back to how it was before. My regular dermatologists assures me that the botox must have worn off by now and has no explanation as to why this happened. What are some possible casues? Could a nerve or a muscle be permanently damaged and are there any treatments for that?
