Chemical menopause causing aging - Would jawline, cheek or chin filler be appropriate here, or something else? (Photos)

Question

I was put into chemical menopause due to health issues and whilst on the medication, I gained around 50lbs, but I also experienced rapid ageing on one side of my face. I was very happy with my face before, and I looked younger than my age (33). But I think the lack of estrogen caused my jawbone to recede on my left side, and it has changed the structure of my face. It has made my high cheek droop and created a hollow under my eye, and a nasolabial fold. I also have excess skin by my hairline when I push my cheek, which I don't have on the other side. I'm happy to age naturally, but this medication side effect has caused me to feel very depressed as I no longer recognise my face anymore. If anyone can suggest what would help to restore my face, I'd be very grateful.

I completely understand how distressing it can feel to see changes in your face, especially when they happen rapidly and aren’t something you chose. Hormonal changes, particularly the drop in estrogen from chemical menopause, can affect the skin, soft tissue, and even underlying bone. This can lead to volume loss in the cheeks, under the eyes, and along the jawline, as well as changes in skin elasticity, which may explain the drooping and hollowing you’re noticing.

Dermal fillers can be a helpful option to restore some of the lost volume. Cheek and midface fillers can lift and support the tissue, improve hollows under the eyes, and soften nasolabial folds. Jawline and chin fillers can help provide more structure and balance, particularly if bone resorption has made one side look less defined. However, fillers only replace volume—they don’t tighten loose skin, so sometimes combining treatments like energy-based skin tightening, threads, or even a subtle lift can give more harmonious results.

Because facial aging is multifactorial—volume loss, skin laxity, and changes in bone structure—it’s usually best to approach it holistically. Small, staged treatments often give the most natural and satisfying outcomes, rather than doing everything at once.

The most important thing is to proceed in a way that feels comfortable to you and supports your emotional well-being, because these changes can understandably feel very personal and upsetting.
