How effective is using intralesional injections fluorouracil 50mg solution with trimcinalone acetonide 40mg for keloids? (photo)

Question

I have a keloid on my chest which has formed over the last 20 years and is now really thick and aggressive, my skin is fair/olive. Is using intralesional injections fluorouracil 50mg solution with trimcinalone acetonide 40mg for keloids with estimated ratios, effective for treatment of flattening and reducing pain and improve overall physical appearance (reducing itchiness, pain and discomfort and looking more flat like skin)? I’ve heard that 40mg trimcinalone acetonide is more effective?

The exact agent(s), concentration(s) and amounts--whether of triamcinolone and/or 5-FU needs to be determined by your response to treatment in the hands of an experienced scar specialist. What I can say after more than three decades of treating these kinds of scars and publishing a paper on their treatment is that the precise agent(s) and their particular concentrations and amounts must be determined by the response to treatments, and usually a series of treatments are required to achieve optimal results. Occasionally, the keloid must be physically debulked surgically (i.e. shaved down) before injection treatment is initiated.  You would be wise to seek consultation and treatment by a board certified cosmetic dermatologist with experience and expertise in the treatment of keloids. Best of liuck.

Keloids are a frustrating chronic genetic predisposing result after an incision or skin break in some people. The skin grows abnormally during the healing process. If excised it grows back larger. Steroid and 5fu injections directly into the lesion can slow down the enlargement and occasionally temporarily reduce the size of the lesion. Injections can be done as often as 1 month apart.
