Hi I am considering a gastric sleeve , I have struggled with my weight all my life and want to be smaller . I have found a Bariatric surgeon in Turkey who will do the surgery for me . My BMI is 27 I am 59 years old My height is 1.63 My weight is 71.5 kg I have high cholesterol @ 8.5 Would it be dangerous for me to have this surgery ? Thank you

We do low BMI sleeves also known as "Dr. K's Mini Sleeve" all the time for patients with a BMI between 25-35. If you have gone over your medical and weight loss history and goals with the surgeon and he feels that he can do it, then you just need to research the surgeon. Make sure this is something he does exclusively and all the time. Make sure he has special designations that shows he is a good surgeon. Many surgeons are popping up these days and claiming to be a bariatric surgeon when they have had no fellowship training or specialty designation. I always have concern for procedures outside the US because there is not the oversight that the US has when it comes to equipment and certifications. I've had to fix many issues from surgeries performed abroad. Not to say they are all like that, all I encourage is a lot of research specially when it comes to your body and health.

Gastric sleeve is indicated for body mass index above 35 or above 30 with comorbid medical condition related to obesity. As uou are 27 it is not recommended
