I am currently going through the process of having 2 permanent veneers fitted. He has removed part of my tooth and taken a mould but then has left me for 3 weeks without anything covering it and without a temporary veneer, they are both hurting and don't look right at all?
Answer: Waiting on veneers without temporaries? #RealSelf100 #DrSarahThompson What you've described sounds bizarre, as if there is a portion of the story that I am missing. I would recommend finding the number to your dental office and giving them a call to get some clarification as to what is going on. It sounds like there is a misunderstanding on either your side or the side of the dental office. Usually, you can find answers a lot faster in-person or on the phone, than on RealSelf. Good luck and I hope this helps. Follow me if you have more questions.Sarah Thompson, DMDReal Self 100

Answer: Temporaries are necessary! After teeth preparation of any kind a temporary is necessary to cover the tooth. This serves many factors, one of which is to reduce sensitivity and bacteria from settling to the teeth. Unfortunately not having a temporary can results in extreme sensitivity in most cases not to mention the esthetic issues of the tooth. Please ask your dentist to place a temporary on your tooth prior to finishing the veneers. All the best.

Answer: Importance of temporaries You need to have temporaries placed. They serve multiple functions. It holds the place of the tooth so your teeth don't shift, it protects the teeth, and it provides a trial for the permanent. Go back to your dentist and have your dentist fabricate temporaries for you. Make sure before your permanent veneers are cemented that you see them tried in and that you love them.

Answer: You need a temporary on your tooth Enamel is the hard substance acting as the outer shell of each of your teeth and is the part of the tooth that’s visible when you look in your mouth. It protects from sensitivity and is the part of your tooth everyone notices. When a tooth is prepped for a veneer a portion of the outer enamel is removed. This can be unsightly and lead to sensitivity. For that reason your dentist should fabricate a temporary veneer to wear while the permanent is being fabricated. The temporary serves two purposes. 1) It protects from pain and sensitivity2) It provides an aesthetically pleasing trial version of the permanent veneer Dentistry should be comfortable and bring a smile to your face.

Answer: My doctor didn't fit any temporary veneers Unless your dentist is making "no prep" veneers (which does not sound like this is the case due to your sensitivity), he should have made some temporary veneers for you both for comfort and aesthetics.
