There are four variables that determine what someone’s looks like. These are skin laxity, excess subcutaneous fat, muscle separation from previous pregnancies called diastasis recti and lastly excess visceral or intra-abdominal fat. Skin laxity and muscle separation are best treated with a full tummy tuck. Visceral fat can only be lost to weight loss. Excess subcutaneous fat can be lost to weight loss or exercise. To get a flat abdomen you need a full tummy tuck. Weight loss can slim things down substantially but weight loss will not address skin laxity or muscle separation. A full Tummy tuck is a major procedure and is not cheap. I would not waste money on nonsurgical options which tends to not deliver much of anything. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
