I would suggest surgical removal and pathologic examination to determine the malignancy risk profile of the mole. A dermatoscope can give you some information prior to the surgery. I perform these surgical excisions in the office. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles

I would highly recommend a biopsy of this lesion. There are two reasons for this recommendation. One is in case this is melanoma, it would be important to have it treated as early as possible. If this is a melanoma, it  would likely be an acral lentiginous melanoma. This is a particularly aggressive form of melanoma. The great reggae singer, Bob Marley died from this type of melanoma. Afro-Caribbeans are particularly prone to acral lentiginous  melanoma and Marley was half black ( on his mother's side...Jewish on his father's side).   The other reason to have this pigmented lesion removed is in case this is not melanoma, for prevention.    These type of nevi can often look suspicious but usually prove benign. A dermatoscope can improve accuracy over the naked eye, but for the above reasons, I would advise an excisional biopsy even in light of benign dermatoscope features.   I would express your concern, and your level anxiety. A  good and concerned  dermatologist will advance your appointment. If the secretary presents a roadblock, ask to speak to your dermatologist directly.
