How long does it take for a hard night guard to stabilize my teeth? I only wear it while sleeping

There are different treatment philosophies among dentist regarding the design and type of nightguard to treat bruxism (clenching and grinding teeth).  Clenching and grinding occurs when the strong jaw muscles are activated; this can lead to tooth wear and joint pain.  The goal of a nightguard should be to relax the muscles and the joints (TMJs).  This often can be accomplished by creating a guard that separates the back teeth slightly and helps position the joints correctly in their sockets.  It sounds like your flipper prevented your back teeth from touching; your nightguard should do the same thing

Although it is difficult to tell what is going with your front teeth. I suggest you get evaluated for possible periodontal compromise. The reasons for the mobility of your teeth is most likely severe bone loss. to really benefit you would need to get a periodontal splint, this will be securely attached or bonded to your teeth, unlike a night guard that is removable.
Please consult an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist for an  evaluation, as this could mean more bone loss and loss of your dentition.
