Laser Hair Removal in the bikini area resulting in hyperpigmentation?? Is this normal?

I had done 2 seaaions laser hair removal in bikini area and inner thigh 2 months apart, but i noticed that the area is getting darker specially inbetween thighs and to some extent the pubic area and labia.. the question is laser causes hyperpigmentation or make the area darker ? Whats my treatment ?

I don't recommend using apple cider vinegar after laser hair removal. The skin may be irritated and this could cause scarring. I recommend getting a formal consultation with a cosmetic dermatologist to go over skin care recommendations. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Laser hair removal targets the hair follicle which is in the dermis, this layer is 0.5 to 4.0mm thick. This is approximately 1/4 of an inch. Hair removal lasers are designed to not penetrate any further than this. Though you may feel some warmth from the laser, the treatment is very superficial....

If the LPP is not active, then you can try chemical peels with microneedling/prp for improvement. Keep in mind, there is very little that can be done to "cure" this condition and the pigmentation may improve but if the LPP acts up again you will regain the pigmentation. Sometimes, there can be an itchy bumpy rash following laser hair removal. This is usually because of irritation of the hair follicles in the treated area, and this can be easily treated with a mild cortisone preparation. I suggest contacting your Dr. for a topical solution. Best, Dr. Emer
