The risk of PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation) is present with any laser - on any skin type. But, pigment problems (hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation) are more of a risk with darker skin types. I do not recommend CO2 laser for dark skin. Fraxel, which is also a resurfacing laser, is really very safe on all skin types - and I would be more apt to recommend this laser (1550 nm) for rejuvenating skin from sun damage. The Clear and Brilliant is also an option. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) would also be a consideration.
