I heard that you can't eat any fatty foods in the first week of post op breast reduction. I'm okay with that but I want to know what else I can and can't eat after the surgery?

Change her diet only if your surgeon insists on it after breast reduction. There is no evidence that adjustments to die will affect wound healing.

After your surgery, especially in the beginning stages of your healing process, it's best to maintain a well-balanced diet with plenty of fluids and rest. Foods rich in fiber and protein are always a great option and will help wounds heal faster. Follow this regimen and you should heal properly.

A healthy nutritious diet rich with fresh fruits and vegetables that you love and dont forget the lots of water. The first 24- 48 hours you are more likely to go slow as you will be recovering from the operation and the anaesthesia. If you taking narcotic based pain medications you are at risk of constipation. Lots of fluids and a fibre rich diet usually helps.

There are no restrictions on what to eat after most surgeries (that don't involve the mouth or gastrointestinal system). Since narcotic medications and anesthesia can cause nausea and vomiting, eating smaller amounts of lighter food for a day or two may be reasonable. However, most people resume a regular diet within a day or two after breast reduction surgery.

You will likely find that you will be back to your favorite, hopefully healthy, diet within a few days after the breast reduction procedure. Otherwise, your plastic surgeon and staff will have recommendations for you in regards to foods to eat immediately after surgery; usually, I ask my patients to start with well tolerated liquids and advance quickly to solid foods as tolerated ( with the concern being avoidance of postoperative nausea/vomiting). Timing of eating in relation to use of postoperative medications should also be discussed.
