Is silicone gel good for redness from a surgical scar? how long does it take to fade to normal skin color?

Redness is a normal part of the healing process and may take several months before resolving. Silicone does seem to aid in healing. Discuss this with your surgeon who knows you best. Good luck.

Dear Alinamore29, Thank you for your question. At 3 weeks it is much too soon to tell the results of your rhinoplasty operation. The scars usually end up being inconspicuous after about 2-3 months based on the location of them. Remember to always use sunscreen as well. Best of luck to you! 

Hello,Thank you for your question. Healing time changes from patient to patient. Redness on incisions at this stage is a normal thing. For my patients besides certain medication I recommend a high-factor sun protection. I suggest you to follow your doctor's post op protocol as he/she knows you the best. In general, I recommend silicone scar gel treatment for all post-surgical or post-traumatic scars.  The issues that you mention such as redness of the scars in a normal part of the healing process and may take 6-9 months to folly resolve.  Studies have suggested that the silicone products are the most promising in terms of speeding up the healing process, but most of these issues will resolve with time and patience.  I suggest you discuss this with your surgeon and follow his or her protocols.  There are many brands available. 

 There are different techniques in alarplasty and I prefer to take a small wedge out and suture the incision inside so that there is no visible scar. With the columella incision I prefer to use and inverted V incision where the skin and tissue are aligned so that there is no tell tale sign of surgery. I would recommend that you see your surgeon for a follow up appointment as he/she will be able to provide you with the best answers after a proper diagnosis is made.
