Can I have IPL hair removal if I'm breastfeeding? My baby is 3 month old.

Question

I bought the Philips Lumea IPL hair removal for me, but I am breastfeeding and have no intention to stop. Can I have a IPL hair removal using this devise? I have checked the manual and it states that it is not recommended to use it whilst breast feeding. I also asked PHILIPS to provide me the reasons however no confirmation. Thank you

While there does not seem to be a correlation between breast feeding and laser therapy complications, it may be more prudent to cease treatment until cessation of breast feeding.  Hormonal changes both during and after pregnancy can alter your response to treatments.  Many patients are susceptible to hyper pigmentation during this period as evidenced by melasma.  Breastfeeding can create hormonal changes different than your norm and may alter your treatment course.

Wall there is no reason to suspect that IPL or laser devices pose a risk if used during breast-feeding, it is impossible to perform medical studies to evaluate this question scientifically.  Therefore there is no information about the use of these devices during breast-feeding and the manufacturer cannot support this practice.  A home use IPL device should be safe for use during breast-feeding
