How much can IPL really accomplish? (Photo)

While IPL treatments can be helpful for correction of diffuse red and brown discoloration, in my experience discrete blood vessels sometimes respond more favorably to vascular laser treatment.  A combination of IPL and vascular laser treatment can sometimes be highly effective.  There is typically no single device that is ideally suited to ddress all concerns.  

It is very hard to tell from your photos what is going on.  In my practice my use of IPL has dropped substantially with the advent of pulsed dye laser/excel V for redness, and with fractional lasers (fraxel) and fractional RF (sublative/viva) for acne scars, pigment, wrinkles etc.  IPL rarely gives long term results and it is not antiaging.  My suggestion would be to see a laser expert and do something that is more age prevention at the same time as treating your red and brown.  Best, Dr. Emer.

IPL or BBL is a nice treatment option for people with rosacea or sun damage, those with persistent redness, burst vessels (facial spider veins / telangiectasis) and those with flat brown spots. For stubborn blood vessels that may not respond, there are other laser options that can be more effective. There is also some improvement as far as skin tightening and pore reduction.
