Question

I am 3 weeks post op breast reduction surgery, and one of my wounds is troublesome at the T point. My doctor removed all dressings, and I wear a sports bra 24/7. I originally was using pantiliners in my sports bra, but whenever I change it daily the scab comes off in same spot. I then started using 'no stick gauze', but I've been using almost a week, and same thing; it's still not healing properly. No discharge or foul smell, but it won't heal. Any suggestions?

The T point is a common area of wound breakdown after breast reduction surgery.  The best thing would be close follow up with your plastic surgeon and adherence to their recommendations.  Best wishes.

Congratulations on having undergone the breast reduction procedure. These types of wound healing problems are not uncommonly seen after breast reduction surgery. The most important "step" for successful resolution, in my opinion, is close follow-up with your plastic surgeon. He/she will be able to recommend appropriate local wound care, treat any infection present, and/or remove any suture material that potentially will delay healing. Generally speaking, patients who experience these types of superficial separations go on to heal well, without long-term detraction from the end results.  Based on your photograph, I think that you will go on to completely heal within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Best wishes  for an outcome that you will be very pleased with.

The area of the inverted T-junction in a breast reduction is a common site of wound dehiscence (breakdown). When this happens, the wound is generally allowed to heal on its own and this may take several weeks. Continue with daily dressing changes using the non adherent gauze and monitor closely for any sign of infection. Avoid using tape on your breast because this may lead to tape burns or blisters. Instead, use your bra to help keep the dressing in place. Go see your MD regularly so that he can follow the progress of the wound healing.
