I have very prominent ptosis when smiling and talking. I was told dermal fillers aren't necessary as the issue isn't there when relaxed. Is Botox the only nonsurgical method or would fillers in fact define the chin better to stop the issue? I do not feel that relaxing the muscle would help to decrease the point and only help with the dimples and smoothing out.
Answer: Prominent chin ptosis when smiling and talking, would Botox help? (photo) Thank you for sharing your question and photographs. I do think that conservative placement of botox into your chin should help prevent the lower chin prominence when smiling. Hope this helps.

Answer: Botox for chin dimpling Hi, and thanks for your question and photos. Botox in your chin can help smooth the chin and decrease the amount of dimpling you see when smiling. Typically we start with 8-10 units and will need to be repeated every 3-4 months to maintain. Filler may be able to helps as well. Voluma in the chin can also help smooth and soften the area. It is hard to say without an in person consultation. This must be done carefully as to not make the area look bigger. Be sure to have an in person consult with an experienced, board certified cosmetic provider. Hope this helps!

Answer: Tiny dose of neurotoxin Excellent question. As you have astutely observed, the "ptosis" only occurs when you are talking or smiling - meaning when you activate your facial muscles. At rest, you do not notice a problem. Fillers are great to correct volume deficiencies, but neurotoxins such as Botox or Dysport are the way to go for dynamic issues like the one you point out. I would recommend a tiny dose of Botox (2-4 units max) to help. There is some evidence to suggest that doing this will lengthen the chin a bit - but with a small dose of Botox, the weakening effect is less, and will likely give you the result you're looking for. The good news is, if you don't like it, it'll wear off in a few months.

Answer: Botox I certainly would try Botox first. If that wasn’t enough then if it is soft tissue there is a procedure to remove excess soft tissue fullness (aka-witches chin ).
