I’m planning on having the Vbeam laser at a plastic surgeon’s office for mild facial redness and telangiectasias along the sides of my nose. The office doesn’t numb for this procedure, nor do they do a spot test. Should I be concerned about either of these? The pain from Vbeam laser is often described as “a mild discomfort, like the snap of a rubber band against your skin”, which I don’t think makes sense because I have always found a rubber band snapped against my skin to be rather painful.

Answer: Is spot test or numbing needed before Vbeam laser treatment?
I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. For rosacea, I like a combination approach, using lasers (ProYellow, Pulsed Dye/Vbeam, Excel V, BBL, Pico), peels and botox to the cheeks. This makes dramatic changes in color and symptoms. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
