Hello, I had my breast augmentation surgery a month ago, and was only able to visit my PS once after that, since she is out of town. I was wondering if it is ok or if there is a certain way that I should massage my implants to help them soften up and drop faster? I had tear drop anatomicals implants and i am also worried that I or my spouse might touch them the wrong way and cause them to shift or be misplaced. when is it ok to start feeling and squeezing them like normal breasts ?

Answer: Textured anatomic implants Generally speaking textured anatomic implants are made to stay in the position that they are placed. Typically they are not massaged because this would cause displacement and possible malposition. It takes several months before things are healed well.

Answer: At 1 month post-op you should be able to return to normal activities as comfort allows With textured shaped implants, we typically don't need to massage them. They are designed to remain pretty much in the same location that the surgeon put them at surgery. While there is always some time for tissues to soften and loosen, the implants themselves shouldn't "drop," or need to "drop." If they are too high now, they will always be too high unless repositioned. With regard to touching them or squeezing them, while you don't need to perform specific massaging of the implants, it is fine for you to touch them and squeeze them like normal breasts at this point, and as long as a particular activity is comfortable for you, it should be OK for you to do it. Check with your surgeon for his or her specific recommendations along these lines, as surgeons sometimes have different protocols depending upon their experiences, and you should always follow the protocol of your personal surgeon. Good luck.
