I am 63, and have good skin that I have taken care of. I am on the thin side, and have fillers to help with lower face laxity. My trusted doctor recommended Profound to help restore my lower face laxity. My question is this: I read on this site that some have had poor results with with Ultherapy, because the fat in their faces seems to melt away, leaving a haggard look. Is there any danger that Profound can cause this same loss of facial fat? I can't afford to lose any!! Thanks so much.

Answer: Profound for thin faces Good afternoon, thank you for your question! In my opinion, Profound is an excellent treatment option for someone who is bothered by lower face laxity & volume loss. I'm especially impressed with how it remodels skin elasticity & boosts volume in the lower mid-cheek. Wrinkles in this area are notoriously difficult to improve with fillers without looking like you've obviously "had something done". Bear in mind that Profound is a bit more aggressive in nature and your downtime will be both longer & more significant in comparison to Ulthera. However, many of my patients are fine with this tradeoff as long as the end result is worth it, and in my experience, it almost always is. I consider several things when determining if a patient is a good candidate for Profound. #1 being overall health/quality of the skin. You say you have taken good care of your skin, so that will definitely benefit you in terms of the degree of improvement you can get from non-surgical treatment options such as Profound. I would not at all be concerned with fat loss from this procedure, in fact, I would expect to see more volume as a result.

Answer: PROFOUND TREATMENT Profound is the newest form of microneedling radiofrequency. Unlike others that have only a surface transmitter, the needles go into the dermis and can heat the tissue more significantly (46 degrees in other RFs to 67 degrees in Profound). This enables more remodeling of the collagen and elastin that give structure and tightness to the skin This remodeling will significantly tighten the skin non-invasively. It is done with carefully placed local anesthesia which results in a procedure that does not hurt. The operator for the Profound makes a lot of difference. Profound can result in volume loss if the needles are deployed in a certain way. The risk of volume loss is minimal if deployed in a judicious manner. Post-procedure, you will be swollen and bruised. This goes away within a week and the bruising can be covered with make up on the second day. The results vary but we have not had anyone who didn't notice an improvement. This can't be said with many of the other RF units and ultrasound units currently available. Best wishes!
