I have a crossbite which I've heard can affect the way my jaw sits, but my teeth are perfectly straight so I never got braces. Can the protrusion of my chin be fixed with a bite correction or filler? My face is longer and my parents both have prominent chins but I also know the misalignment of my teeth could be the issue.
Answer: Prominent chin reduction Calm, Your chin projects further forward and is taller when seen from the front than in most other women. The excess bone that causes this can be reduced through a small incision inside your mouth. There are not many surgeons who perform this reduction on a regular basis, the reduction can be done for just the chin or the entire jaw, and there isn't a consistent name for it either (mandible reduction, jaw reduction, mandible contouring, chin reduction) so it can be harder to find good info on it online. See an experienced surgeon who can tell you about how the surgery is done, show you before and after photos, and give you a good idea of what results you can expect. -Dr. Rolfes

Answer: Chin Jawline Reduction You have a chin and anterior jawline that is vertical longer and more horizontally protrusive than you would like. With perfectly straight teeth you are not a candidate for jaw setback surgery. Nor are fillers appropriate since what you need is a reductive surgery not augmentation. There are two methods of chin/anterior jawline reduction, intraoral and submental...and they create different types of results and tradeoffs. The intraorla approach is NOT bone burning as that will create a major chin ptosis problem nor it is just sliding back the bone of the chin. The appropriate procedure is a t-shaped bony geniplasty where the vertical length and projection of the chin is reduced. This is a 'scrless' surgery but its effects will be less than the submental approach. In the siubmental approach done from a skin incision below the chin excess bone and soft tissue is reduced and its results are greater than the intraoral osteotomy method but it does leave a submental scar and often needs a secondary revision for ideal results. In your case the intraoral bony genioplasty approach is best and it is part of a well known procedure. (v line jaw reduction) It is just the front part of the v line procedure.

Answer: Smaller Chin Thank you for your questions and your photos. The only way to significantly reduce the chin is with surgery. Unfortunately fillers only make the chin bigger. Orthodontics help the lip position more than the chin. To reduce the projection of the chin, the surgery involves an incision inside the mouth to access the bone. The bone can be cut and moved back, or just burred down. This smooths the jawline and creates a more feminine appearance. Best of luckDr Rodman
