I have acne prone skin, will laser hair removal cause me to have more acne?

I use to not have acne as a kid, but when I was in high school, I had waxing done and I started getting massive breakouts. It took years to control my acne. I now thread. I still get a little bit of acne from threading, but I take anti-histamine 6 hours before and it helps. Now, I want to get laser hair removal done on my face. My skin is light with thick dark hair. I am scared my acne is going to worsen though and I am unsure what to do. I still get acne, after threading but it's not bad.

Hi m1412, Over the course of your hair removal treatments the hair follicle will become smaller & softer. The hair can become to fine to pierce through the skin, especially if the skin is dry. I’d recommend a scrub with AHA/BHA, as well as moisturising regularly. Good luck! ACM.

The risks of laser hair removal around the areola should be no different than with any other body part. If the skin is thoroughly wiped of oils and the proper laser wavelength is being used, there should be no hyperpigmentation.
