I’m concerned about hyperpigmentation and breastfeeding. A friend had a baby and had issues who had laser and her doctor asked if she had laser and said that could contribute.

laser hair removal shouldn't cause hyperpigmentation with the right treatment laser.  you can pre and post treat the skin with vivatia (see link).  Best, Dr. Emer.

The risks of laser hair removal around the areola should be no different than with any other body part.  If the skin is thoroughly wiped of oils and the proper laser wavelength is being used, there should be no hyperpigmentation.

Laser hair removal affects hair follicles only and is actually done outside the areola on fair skin, not dark skin. If there are actually dark hairs emerging from the areola itself, electrolysis might be a better option, as less heat is used, and thus less risk of hyperpigmentation. Since no trauma occurs deeply where milk glands are located, there is absolutely no effect to breast milk quality or quantity.
