If I get laser hair removal around my hairline and later get hairline transplant to grow hair in that area, will it work ?

I shave my forehead to give my hair line the shape I want . It kind if makes my forged look bigger and wider which I don't like but I like the shape of my hair line after I shave around it. I want to do a laser treatment to remove the hair and shape my hair line . I also noticed that the hair in front of my head and forehead got thinner and I was thinking of going have transplant in a few years to grow it back. If I laser my hair line now and later I want to get a hair line transplant will it work ?

This can happen after laser hair removal, but will improve with more treatments. Keep in mind it will take a series. I typically have patients do every 4 weeks for the first 3 times and then every 4-6 weeks for 3 times after. See an expert in laser hair removal for best results. Best, Dr. Emer

It may be that the new hair was in a different growth phase. Typically, if it is darker and thicker, then it should actually respond even better to subsequent treatments. It usually takes multiple treatments to achieve permanent hair reduction.

When shaving your hair it doesn't grow back thicker, it's an illusion. When you shave you cut the hair on an angle so it may appear thicker and coarser. If you are getting laser hair removal on your neck, it is absolutely OK to shave. We recommend shaving in between treatments and not waxing or...

A combination approach is needed. This can be improved with lasers, peels, skin lightening microneedling/prp and skin care. Sun protection is essential. I recommend getting a formal consultation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer
