Hello, I have had hair loss since late this year which has never happened to me in my life. I’m 22 years old. Before I had a full scalp and now my hair is thinning at the top and I have active hair shedding, when I tug at my hair more than 6 strands fall out. I got a full panel blood test and the results came back normal. What else should I do?

You need a formal evaluation to see what type of hair loss you may have. when you have hairless its best to do a full hormonal workup for internal optimization plus scalp biopsies or scrapings to rule out any stress related, inflammatory, autoimmune or infectious causes of hair loss. In general most people with early hair loss have telogen (stress related) and/or androgenetic (normal aging) and both can be treated with in office treatments like steroid injections, PRP/acell, Exosomes and at home treatments like oral medications, oral vitamins like Viviscal, topical exfoliating sprays like Restorsea, and weekly growth factors like anteagemd. With this story, the most likely condition for your dermatologist to rule out is androgenetic hair loss. A full history together with a proper up close examination (using trichoscopy) can rule in this condition. If anyone doubts this diagnosis, a scalp biopsy should be done. A terminal to vellus hair ratio less than 4:1 with prominent sebaceous glands support the diagnosis. Generally speaking a biopsy is not needed for evaluating most cases of hair loss. Androgenetic hair loss, also known as female pattern hair loss, is the most likely diagnosis in this setting.
