Veneers: I am considering for the 4th time redoing my veneers but am worried if I am putting myself at risk, advice? (photo)

I originally got 4 veneers in 1996. In 2007 one broke so I decided to do them over this time getting 8, I then a few years ago got Tmj and got them all done, but I don’t like color, so I was thinking of doing the front 6 over again, this would be the 4th time on these teeth getting veneers is it too risky and if I end up needing root canals are they risky or a big deal.

Good question! Obviously the more you do to your teeth the more risk for sensitivity and root canals. However, if a dentist is careful and removes just the veneer and cement without prepping the tooth the risk is usually minimal. The upper front teeth tend to have more tooth structure to work with too, unlike the small lower front teeth. Would need xrays to tell for sure and a good history--such as, have you been symptomatic, have you been having sensitivity at all on those teeth? Get a consultation to discuss, good luck!

You have a valid concern as anytime any sort of dentistry is performed there is a chance of nerve irritation which can potentially cause the need for root canals. However if the clinician uses care and experience the chances of this occurring can be reduced considerably!  All the best.
