How Come a Breast Lift Cost More Than Breast Implants?

how come a breast lift cost more than breast implants?

Breast lifts are more expensive than breast implants because of several factors.

If a breast lift patient needs or requests implants to further enlarge breast volume, the answer is easy: lifting AND enlarging the breasts involves more incisions, more "inside-the-breast" surgical dissection, and much more surgical closure, all of which take more time and skill than Implant placement alone. Breast augmentation requires only a small incision, precise creation of a pocket for the implants, insertion of implants, and rapid closure. Cost of any operation is related to both the time and surgical effort/skill required, not to mention operating room time, anesthesia time, and the related increased costs for these things as well.

Even in a breast lift that requires no implants, the longer and more detailed planning, incisions, and surgical closure are attended by increased costs. Much more judgement, artistry, and experience is required for excellent outcomes with breast lifts!

Also, there are different kinds of breast lifts, and each of these will have different costs based on the individual details of each kind of lift. I hope this helps!

Breast Lift Surgery Does Not Always Cost More Than Breast Augmentation Alone

{{ voteCount >= 0 ? '+' + (voteCount + 1) : (voteCount + 1) }}

Breast lift surgery does not always cost more than breast augmentation alone.  These prices will vary from one surgeon to the next.  It also changes from geographic location to geographic location.  Recent statistics published by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery indicate that the average surgeon fee for a breast lift is $4280.  The average surgeon’s fee for a breast augmentation performed with saline implants is $3535 and the average surgeon fee for silicone implant breast augmentation is $3918.    Once again, these are the surgeon’s fees only and do not include the facility fee, the anesthesia fee nor does it include the price of the breast implants themselves.  A breast lift typically takes longer than a breast augmentation.  A breast augmentation typically takes between 1 and 2 hours and a breast lift could take between 1.5 to 3 hours.  The extra time in the operating room and the extra time for anesthesia would raise the cost of this procedure over the breast augmentation.

Cost of breast augmentation

The simple answer is that the cost of a surgery is based on its complexity -- both in terms of operative time, surgical difficulty, and in pre- and post-operative care and planning.  A breast augmentation involves the placement of an implant either under the breast or pectoralis muscle through a small incision.  This surgery typical takes about an hour; and while it is surgery and has risks, it is not as complex a procedure as a breast lift.

For a breast lift, a surgeon can use many different techniques (this requires surgical judgement to decide which technique is best for the patient), the incision is larger with more undermining of areas of skin and/or breast tissue, and the surgery is typically 2-3 hours in length, and is also more difficult technically than a breast augmentation.  For these reasons, a breast lift typically costs more than a breast augmentation.

Cost of breast implant versus breast lift surgery

There are many factors of cost, such as type of lift and whether implants are being placed with the lift.  Just comparing a lift versus an implant surgically, placing an implant requires making a pocket, and putting in an implant and closing a small incision with a few stitches.  It's much quicker than doing a lift which involves a complicated and extensive dissection that takes a lot of time to close, using a lot of stitches.  Obviously, adding implants to a lift procedure increases the cost even more.

Breast Lift versus Implants

For breast implant surgery, a small incision is made (in the inframammary fold or around your areola) and a pocket is made either above or below your muscle.  The implant is then placed in the pocket and the incision closed.  This surgery takes about an hour.  For breast lift surgery, incisions are made around your areola and also in an anchor pattern in order to lift the skin.  This surgery takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.  Sometimes, both an implant and a lift are done at the same time.  This surgery would take about 2 to 3 hours.  Prices vary, but in general a primary augmentation costs less than a secondary (revision) augmentation which costs less than a lift which cost less than and lift plus implants.  The prices are determined by the length of surgery of complexity of surgery involved.  I hope this is hopeful.

Costs of Breast Augmentation versus Mastopexy?

{{ voteCount >= 0 ? '+' + (voteCount + 1) : (voteCount + 1) }}

Thank you for the question.

Different surgical procedures differ in costs depending on the complexity  and length of time required to perform the procedure. Mastopexy surgery generally is more complex than breast augmentation surgery and requires longer surgery, anesthesia, and facility times.

I hope this helps.

Implants are about 2000.oo . an augmentation takes about 30-45 minutes .  A lift about 2-2.5 hours

Breast Lift more expensive than Breast Augmentation

{{ voteCount >= 0 ? '+' + (voteCount + 1) : (voteCount + 1) }}
Breast Lift requires a more complex surgery leading to more anesthesia time and operating room expenses than a straight breast augmentation.

South Florida tends to have lower fees then more expensive areas such as New York or Los Angeles. We charge starting at $4000 + MD Anesthesia related costs for a breast lift with saline breast implants. Since you can get quality work at lower costs, patients will travel from throughout the state, the country, and internationally to have surgery in South Florida.

To ensure that you are receiving quality work at the most cost effective prices, consult with board certified plastic surgeons that own their own nationally accredited facilities. The quality must be maintained at the highest level to maintain accreditation. The surgeons also have incentive to hire and train quality staff (to ensure that surgery is efficient and enjoyable), to ensure comfortable and private facilities (to encourage referral), and to eliminate waste (to ensure that these facilities can compete effectively).

Lift vs. Implants: Cost difference

{{ voteCount >= 0 ? '+' + (voteCount + 1) : (voteCount + 1) }}

Breast lift surgery is more expensive than breast augmentation due to the complexity of the operation.  Basically, the more time it takes to perform the procedure, the higher the costs for the facility charges, the surgeon's fee,  and anesthesia charges.

Why Does A Breast Lift Cost More Than An Augmentation?

{{ voteCount >= 0 ? '+' + (voteCount + 1) : (voteCount + 1) }}

  Most surgical procedures are priced by complexity and time needed to perform the surgery. A breast lift is more complex in it's design and execution and also takes more time in the OR to complete.
